The Digital Production BuZZ is LIVE from the trade show floor at the 2009 NAB Show.

This week, we begin a special series of daily, one-hour reports covering the best of NAB.

Boris Yamnitsky, CEO at Boris FX

Marco Bario, VP, Theatrical Post-Production at Technicolor Creative Services

Marvin Ceasar, CEO of Aphex Systems

Will Richmond, President, Broadband Directions

Ron Clifton, CEO, International Datacasting

Chris Brown, executive vice president, NAB, is responsible for the entire NAB Show. We talk with him briefly today (and for a longer time tomorrow) about what the NAB Show is and why it includes so much more than just broadcasters.

Vance van Petten, executive director of the Producers Guild of America, heads the largest group of film and television producers in the world. He talks with us about the role of the Guild in production, his take of where it is going in the future and a discussion of the relevance of guilds in an increasingly on-line world.

Boris Yamnitsky, CEO of Boris FX, is legendary in the effects industry for the quality of his effects software. Today we talk with him about his latest releases - Boris Continuum.

Marco Bario, VP, Theatrical Post Production at Technicolor Creative Services, is responsible for processing digital dailies, final color correction, and output for a wide variety of highly-demanding, high-end clients. We talk about the whole HD post process and discuss how they work with multiple video formats.

Marvin Ceasar, CEO of Aphex Systems, is an analog audio guy living in a digital world. However, thankfully for the rest of us, his audio products sound amazing. He talks about the limitations of digital audio, how audio pre-processing works and why you want to consider adding analog gear to your digital system. (As a note, while this interview was not recorded using his gear, the show open and all our live news briefs were. After hearing our new sound, we are not giving the gear back!)

Will Richmond, president, Broadband Directions, LLC, is an on-line blogger that covers the business end of digital distribution. From YouTube and Hulu to ad networks, and distribution networks, where the business is growing and where the money is for the rest of us.

Ron Clifton, CEO, International Datacasting, provides the hardware for digital cinema. The cool thing he's discovered is there is a huge market for live 3D events -- created by anyone that has a story to tell and distributed over his equipment.

The BuZZ

LIVE in our studios host Larry Jordan and co-host Michael Horton are joined this week by:

Bob Russo, Post-production specialist for Avid Technology, chats with us about the latest releases for Media Composer. We talk about why someone should consider upgrading, the challenges of working with tapeless media, how Avid is building on the new foundation it created in the 3.0 release, and what to look forward to in the next year.

Philip Hodgetts, President, Big Brains for Rent, slows down long enough to share some of his ideas on how to produce great products for less money.

David Simpson, Director, Milking the Rhino, discusses what it is like to film in Africa and the challenges he faced in creating his award-winning film.

Roger Baker, Director of Business Development for Cubist Media Group, provides us with a different opinion on how Blu-ray Discs require you to think differently during both production and post-production. This should be a fascinating look at how new technology impacts existing techniques.
